Why timeshare
The best boat is the one you don't have to own.
Ownership on San Francisco Bay is a second mortgage in disguise. Slip fees. Loan payments. Haul-outs, bottom paint, rigging, insurance, and the standing surprise of a marine repair bill.
Our program removes every one of those line items and leaves the part you actually wanted: a well-found boat, ready at the dock, whenever you are.
It costs less than one bareboat charter a month at the non-member rate. If you sail even semi-regularly, the arithmetic stops being close.

Choose the boat you're certified for and whether you want six months or twelve. Twelve costs less per month.

A refundable damage deposit is held in escrow, sized to the boat. It comes back to you at the end.

Unlimited Andrews & J/80.
Students of the sailing school get unlimited use of the Andrews 21s and J/80s rather than seven sails a month, and $500 off the damage deposit on those boats. That's $1,000 on the Andrews and $1,500 on the J/80.

South Beach Harbor sits at the foot of the city: Oracle Park on one side, the Bay Bridge overhead, and the Bay opening up the moment you clear the breakwater.
It is, practically speaking, the most convenient place to keep a boat in San Francisco. Drive in on your parking pass, walk down the dock, and be sailing in fifteen minutes.

People also compare this to a boat club membership, which is the closest relative, though most boat clubs run powerboats rather than keelboats, and few of them are a sailing club with an ASA school attached. Ours is, which is why members can move up a class as their certification does.

How do I book a boat?
It depends on the size of the boat. For 30 feet and over (the J/105, J/109 and Beneteau 37) you get access to a shared Google calendar reserved for members. Book your days up to a year in advance, show up and sail. No office visit, no paperwork.
For 27 feet and under (the J/80s and Andrews 21s) email us your desired date and we'll handle the reservation. The standard check-in and check-out process still runs through the office.
What certification do I need?
For the smaller boats (the J/80s and Andrews 21s) ASA 103 or equivalent experience.
For the bigger boats (the J/105, J/109 and Beneteau 37) ASA 104 or equivalent experience.
"Or equivalent" is genuine. If you've sailed comparable boats in comparable conditions, talk to us and we'll assess. If you're not there yet, our school will get you there.
How does the damage deposit work?
It's refundable and held in escrow for the length of your membership. The amount scales with the boat: $1,500 for the Andrews 21, $2,000 for the J/80, and $2,500 for the J/105, J/109 and Beneteau 37.
Sailing school students get $500 off, bringing the Andrews down to $1,000 and the J/80 to $1,500.
Six months or twelve?
Twelve months costs less per month and suits anyone planning to sail year-round, and the Bay sails year-round.
Six months costs slightly more per month but works well for seasonal sailors, or if you'd rather try the program before committing to a full year. You can upgrade or adjust your membership at any time as your sailing changes.
What do I have to do after a sail?
Rinse the boat down and take your trash off with you. That's it. Cleaning, maintenance, and getting her ready for the next member is ours to deal with.
Every member is trained on their boat before they sail her, which is why the fleet stays in the condition it does: properly tied, properly maintained, no surprises when you arrive.
Do I get a specific boat?
On the J/105, J/109 and Beneteau 37, yes. Those are single, named boats: Wonder, Cirrus and Valkyrie.
On the Andrews 21 and J/80 you're booking the class rather than a hull. You'll sail whichever of the seven Andrews or four J/80s is available on your day, which is part of why those tiers cost what they do.
Where do I park?
Every member in the program receives a Pier 40 parking pass. Given where we are, a hundred yards from Oracle Park, that is not a small detail on a game day.
